I. Introduction to the Post State

Introduction

Published : June 27, 2023

A. How did we end up with the nation-state regime?

Today, the human population is segmented into approximately 200 administrative groups referred to as nation-states. Nation-states are defined by geographic borders and are generally aligned to a racial-ethnic community, a shared resource pool (commonly known as taxes), a shared language, and a variety of other elements that coalesce to create a “national” identity.

This segmentation of the human population has evolved over thousands of years and is largely the byproduct of colonization and wars. Nation-state borders were often built by acts of empire expansion, where self-proclaimed demigods deployed the poor to fight and die to benefit those born into privilege. Over time, these kingdoms and empires transformed into representative governments. Today, the borders of these blood-forged kingdoms remain largely intact.

B.    Let Us Upgrade to Civilization 5.0

The nation-state regime is quickly becoming obsolete due to rapid advances in science and technology. Political structures, like all systems created by humankind, grow stale with time and are eventually unable to adapt to the new social environment. The software of how we politically organize ourselves is due for an upgrade, Civilization 5.0 cometh.

This new version of civilization is likely to take the form of Administrative Regions (AR), which will replace the nation-state regime and decentralize government power.

C.    Problems with the Nation State Regime

There is a massive exodus of faith in the nation-state regime due to a variety of problems. They are:

Tribalism

Tribal politics consumes far too much time of elected representatives, mass media, and the citizenry. If the time spent on political hatred of the “other side” could be reallocated to the betterment of civilization, the world would be a better place.

Too Big to Manage #TBTM

The populations of many nation-states are too big to manage. When vast populations are governed under one administrative umbrella, a rift emerges between the needs of the taxpayer and actions of the tax spender. This misalignment results in inefficient or reckless public spending, sluggish governmental response, and a failure of accountability on the use of taxpayers’ hard-earned money. When we reduce the size of our primary fiscal communities, currently the nation-state, we will dramatically increase government effectiveness and efficiency.

Inequality

The geographic location of one’s birth has an enormous impact on one’s life. The artificial boundaries, also known as “international borders,” that are erected to prevent migration in and out of defined geographic areas create massive inequalities between global citizens. Tear down the false walls and tear down inequality.

The Separation of Race and State

Racial-ethnic identity should not be a basis for government. Racial-ethnic identity (i.e. “Chinese” or “German”) is defined by empires as a tool to galvanize one population against another. Racial-enthnicity changes with the passage of time, as human beings migrate, cultures mix and belief systems are imposed upon a populace. Stated differently, race and ethnicity are constantly changing; a “Nation” evolves, it is not consistent over time. And even at a single point in time, one person’s race or ethnicity can be defined in multiple ways. So why are most governments constructed around the “Nation”?

Additionally, government rooted in race and ethnicity facilitates racial-ethnic pride. Racial-ethnic pride fosters nativism, racism, and remains an underlying justification for war and genocide: the systemized murder of millions of human beings under the false pretense of racial-ethnic superiority. It is time to separate race and state.

War on Steroids

War is mostly nation-states fighting other nation-states driven by trade, territory, and ethnicity. War has killed millions of people, destroyed millions of families, and prevented billions of beautiful and brilliant thoughts. The vast resource pools of nation-states magnify the destruction of human conflict. Distribute the resource pools and limit casualties. War is an act of the state, not the people.

Restrictions on Freedoms

The nation-state regime invades our liberties in a variety of areas, including:

  1. Commerce

  2. Migration

  3. Identity

  4. Religious freedom

  5. Voting

Public Monopolies

When public services are not open to competition, they have destructive effects on the efficiency of society. These services include currency management, public pension systems, transportation infrastructure and others. Breaking up these monopolies will improve the condition of humanity.

D.    An Urgent Situation

We find ourselves in an urgent situation. A transition away from the nation-state regime is an inevitable consequence of technological developments. Digital technologies have drastically reduced the reliance on physical proximity as a requirement for community. The nation-state concept was built in a time when most could never imagine conversing with someone who lived a few hundred miles away. Today, we swipe a smooth glass screen and can talk to anyone on the globe within seconds. As we find commonalities and aligned incentives with people across the globe, the thick lines on the world map mean less and less. The illogical pride in the massive tribes called nation-states is quickly being acknowledged. The governments we pay for do not provide a good value.

A change is in the air. If we do not act quickly human progress could devolve into chaos. Disorderly change of political systems often creates power vacuums and destructive social volatility. These Robespierre moments divert resources from human progress to carnage. We must avoid this situation.

E.    The Mission of this Text

The intent of this text is twofold: 1) to raise awareness that the nation-state regime is nearing its expiration date; and 2) to propose solutions to replace the nation-state regime.

This text is not an exhaustive list of all the problems with the nation-state, nor does it contain all the potential solutions. Therefore, challenge and constructive criticism of any aspect of this assembly of thoughts are welcome and necessary.

This text is not a call to arms, but it is a plea for common sense. Forms of government have always evolved, thus let us transition to the next paradigm wisely. Guiding that transition is the mission of this text.

II. Post State: Problems with the Nation-state Regime

Tribalism

Published : June 24, 2023

Tribalism is Inefficient

Bloodless civil wars are being waged across the world. The tribal warfare within most nation-states prohibits productive government and leads to vast inefficiencies. The greater the political conflict, the more inefficient an administrative body becomes.

The bottom left corner represented here as the Ideal Range is what civilization should strive for. In the Ideal Range, political opposition leads to constructive challenge of policy and government spending packages, which ultimately improves the result. Adequate challenge improves outcomes, but there is a point in which challenge becomes an impediment; this is when the line crosses into tribal conflict.

The top right of the graph represents a total civil war, where both sides are solely focused on destroying one another. Total civil war is generally an extremely inefficient use of time, as progress in most other areas of civilization cease to exist. It should be noted that certain total civil wars can have a justified rationale, if there are ethical, moral, or social humanitarian betterment principles at stake. Most nation-states fall somewhere in the middle of the range, where tribal conflict leads to government inefficiencies.

Political Hate Shows

Tribalism sells. The monetization of political hatred is a profitable business for media companies. Tribalism is promoted by pundits who package and sell political hatred. The Political Hate Shows produced by these media organizations inflict irreparable damage upon society, as the broadcasted hatred deepens political divides within a political community. Businesses built upon foundations of selling hate are unethical and should not be consumed.

The table below approximates the time wasted each year on watching Political Hate Shows in the United States of America.

Wasted Hours on Political Hate Shows

A rough estimate of over 6 billion hours each year are wasted in the United States based on this simple methodology. It must be noted that this estimate is for one nation-state only, and does not account for the time citizens spend conversing, texting, posting on social media or any other form of communication negatively influenced by Political Hate Shows. Every year, billions of hours are directed towards hatred of the “other side” to produce an economic benefit for select media organizations.  This phenomenon drastically reduces constructive bi-partisan dialogue. Turn off Political Hate Shows.

Tribalism is Wasted Time

Tribalism limits the progress of humanity by wasting time. Time is among the scarcest of resources, and when political parties spend time entangled in partisan warfare instead of improving lives, time is lost. Wasteful expenditure of time should be thought of no differently than wasteful spending. Stated differently, how elected representatives spend their time is a crucial ingredient to the overall effectiveness of a government. If the time of government representatives could be more fully allocated to improving the condition of the citizenry and the environment, rather than engaged in partisan warfare, the progress of humanity would greatly accelerate.

We must not only consider the time of elected representatives, but also the time of the people. The vast majority of the population has a limited amount of time to spend engaged in the day-to-day operations of government. Unfortunately, most receive information about the government from media sources that endorse political hate. When an individual’s scarce time is directed toward mockery of an opposition party and its leaders instead of constructive dialogue on policy, it is a tragic and lost opportunity.

Political Parties are Tribes

Tribalism occurs when a political party allows conflict with an opposition party to distract them away from their intended policy agenda. Stated differently, war against the opposing party becomes the dominant agenda. So why do political parties act in a tribal manner? There is an argument to be made that the tribalism phenomenon occurs in the subconscious mind of the party. That is, the most influential voices in a political body aren’t necessarily setting out to wage war against an opponent, but attempting to strengthen the community bonds of their own belief system. War is the optimal creator of disparate unity; there is no better way to unify a group of people–“us”–than by putting them in opposition against other people — “them.” The “us vs. them” strategy has served the rulers of civilization since the dawn of humankind. We must evolve beyond this.

A distinction must be made between constructive and unconstructive conflict. When elements of an idea, product, or policy are challenged, opposing disagreements and feedback can lead to refinement and help make the idea, product, or policy better and more resilient. In the current nation-state regime where tribalism dominates the political landscape, constructive conflict seldom occurs. Partisan warfare clogs the pipes of productive and efficient debate. Political conflict should yield a net positive result for the populace, but when the system is infected with tribalism the result is a net negative.

Objective, merit-focused, rules-based policy decision making is the optimal way for a political body to operate. Modern civilizations struggle to move forward through the tribal mud pits, and governments are not meeting their full potential due to the irrational and unproductive impacts of tribal effects. We must strive for a system where tribalism does not strangle effective administration. Merit must rule the future, not hatred.

Too Big to Manage

Tax Spending is Opaque

It is impossible to understand exactly how governments spend money. That is, the collection of taxes, traveling from one’s paycheck to final expenditure by a government agency cannot be easily traced. This is the result of several factors including overlapping layers of government, lack of sufficient disclosure in one’s paycheck, and difficult to follow government spending disclosures. The illustration below is a simplified diagram of government tax collection, transfers, and ultimate use.

The lack of transparency along the government money trail creates several problems. These include:

  1. Disengaging citizens as it is unclear how tax money is utilized;
  2. Facilitating a lack of accountability for public spending by elected representatives; and
  3. Making the true cost of government services impossible to track, and thus impossible to manage efficiently.

We need to find a way to make public spending more transparent and easier to understand.

State Leaders Have Too Much Power

The nation-state places far too much power into state executives. Whether it is a president, prime minister, dictator, general secretary, or other form, there is too much authority concentrated into one human being. Humanity has attempted to turn away from allocating large portions of power to one decision maker (e.g. the end of monarchies), yet a residual energy remains. Now is the time to fully exit. Decentralization of power is necessary progress.

A Debt Fiesta

We will borrow until we can borrow no more. Nation-states currently have massive debt obligations and limited discipline to reduce these growing debt mountains. The current trend of federal government spending in excess of tax collections will continue to increase as fractured political systems are unable to deal with growing budgetary issues.

The graph below depicts federal debt as a percentage of GDP which measures debt vs. the size of an economy. The nation-states presented below make up more than half of the world’s GDP. One will notice the upward trend, particularly the average which has climbed from 37% to more than 125% over the past 50 years. This pace is not sustainable and will inevitably lead to financial catastrophe.

It is only a matter of time until debt investors, also known as the bond vigilantes, reject the inability of nation-states to service their debt. A couple of other crucial points about the nation-state Debt Fiesta:

  • Even before a missed debt payment, the brinkmanship conducted by political parties to default on public obligations adds volatility and uncertainty to financial markets.
  • When too many private sector firms have over-borrowed or not properly planned for crisis moments, the nation-state government and monetary authority step in to bail them out by issuing more government debt. This debt absorption phenomenon distorts financial markets by mispricing risk, and enables irresponsible firms to benefit from public funding. Ultimately, the taxpayer is bailing out private enterprise. Were tax pools smaller, the scale of this irresponsible moral hazard would be greatly reduced.

A Lack of Accountability

Nation-state democracies lack sufficient accountability mechanisms to ensure that elected representatives perform their job well. Re-election is only partially effective since, in many cases, a bad representative can inflict large quantities of damage to the state treasury before their term has expired.

A large part of the problem is that elections are heavily influenced by factors that have little to do with a representative’s job performance. These include the timing of the economic cycle, the gravity of the political pendulum, the campaigns of marquee candidates of the same political party, the amount of money spent on a campaign, demographic shifts, clever marketing campaigns, and other factors. If some combination of these factors are favorable for a bad representative, they are re-elected despite their poor job performance.

Another component of the accountability problem is that few metrics or performance indicators exist to measure an elected representative’s performance. When a voter goes to the election booth, what statistics do they have to help inform their decision? What data and metrics are available? The only broadly public data available on the candidate are sound-bytes from the campaign trail.

In an era where we are data rich, we are information poor. As a result, most voters make their decision based on political party affiliation or promises made by candidates on the campaign trail. Accountability is severely lacking in current government systems — let’s fix this.

A Bad Deal for the Taxpayer

One of the many failures of the tax system under the nation-state regime is the lack of mutual benefit between taxpayer and tax spender. A mutual benefit, or a “good deal,” is when two parties in an agreement both benefit from an exchange. Think of a sale, where a buyer purchases a product, and a seller receives money in return. If the seller’s product is of good value, the buyer will recommend that product, which enables a seller to establish future sales. Both parties are properly incentivized. What about the tax system? Does it provide proper incentives to both the taxpayer and tax spender?

What does the taxpayer seek? The taxpayer wants an optimization of their tax obligation. That is, to have a variety of effective state services provided in the most cost-effective manner. Is the tax spender properly incentivized to fulfill the desire of the taxpayer? Is there adequate incentive to provide the best state services at the least amount of cost? This text argues no.

Let’s examine how the tax spender is incentivized.

1) Financial. Many tax spenders are incentivized to build their personal brand for financial gain. If one can build a public persona, they can monetize that persona via a book deal, media appearances, speaking events, etc.

2) Re-election. Many tax spenders are focused on re-election, fundraising, and campaigning for the next election cycle to maintain their job, and they do not prioritize improving the condition of government services.

3) Power. Some tax spenders simply have a thirst for authority, and public representation fulfills that desire. Delivering improved government is secondary, at best.

4) Party Recognition. Serving in public office and advancing political party objectives can be a springboard to higher and more visible public office, particularly in nation-states with dominant/single party rule.

There are some tax spenders who prioritize government efficiency, but they are in the minority. The only guarantee that the taxpayer has is the campaign promise of the tax spender. A promise. The current tax system is a bad deal for the taxpayer. A new system is needed.

Too Many to Govern

Let us examine the size of the tax pool and the ratio of tax spender to tax provider at the founding of some of the largest nation-states. The population of the United States of America upon its establishment was 4 million people, not inclusive of the Native American population as they were not included in the official census until 1840.

These four million citizens, tax providers, were represented by 65 tax spenders in the US House of Representatives, a ratio of approximately 60,000 to 1. In the United States today, that ratio is now ~13 times greater, with a ratio of 760,000 to 1. To put that into a tangible context, if one were to fill a soccer stadium, everyone in that stadium would be represented by one person based on the 1790 ratio. Now, one US House member represents 12 soccer stadiums full of people.

Representing 60,000 people by communicating with them and understanding their views is a challenging task, but arguably possible if one is an engaged and motivated administrator. Accomplishing this same connection to be an effective representative with 760,000 is nearly impossible.

This phenomenon is present in other nation-states as well:

The larger the global population grows, the more difficult it becomes for representatives to meaningfully and adequately represent all citizens under the current nation-state regime. An attempt to modify the representative structure to improve these ratios would likely lead to escalated political battles due to the polarized status of many nation-state governments. Simply stated, we are too many to govern under the current administrative system, we must find a better way.

False Walls Create Inequality

Published : June 24, 2023

False Walls Destroy Potential

The false walls of international borders enforce a system of disparity between wealthy and poor. Imagine two children born with identical levels of intelligence and work ethic, yet one is born in America and another in Somalia. Is their potential for success equal? Absolutely not. The obstacles that the Somalian child must endure include civil war, decrepit education systems, ailing health care systems, among a variety of other birthplace specific disadvantages. These social environmental hurdles will limit the Somalian child’s ability to succeed. Is it logical for international borders to have an enormous impact on one’s potential? No. We can correct this injustice by tearing down the false walls that hinder potential.

False Walls Cause Death

To combat birthplace inequality, many take matters into their own hands and attempt to cross international borders to seek a better environment for themselves and/or their children. Many are so desperate to escape the horrible situations in which they are born that they risk their lives for the opportunity to improve their circumstances. These courageous acts result in desperate migrants on rickety boats in stormy waters; or long pilgrimages through the desert where dehydration takes its toll. The table below estimates the number of dead and missing people due to cross-border migration over the past several years.

Tax Royalty

The nation-state regime enables tax royals who manipulate the system. Inconsistent laws across tax jurisdictions, defined by nation-state borders, facilitate an entire industry of hiding wealth for large companies and the privileged. Advanced tax strategies that funnel tax obligations into nation-states with lower tax rates are accessible to those who can afford sophisticated tax experts. This practice results in nearly a trillion dollars in lost government revenue annually. Additionally, this results in regressive tax effects, where lower income earners pay a larger percentage of their income than the wealthy. Let us tear down the False Walls, eliminate tax inequality, and put an end to Tax Royalty.

The Separation of Race and State

Published : June 24, 2023

We are one genetic Community

Eery human being is made up of near-identical genetic material. With this fact in mind, we must accept race and ethnicity as a temporary label applied to a group of people with common characteristics at a certain point in time. Racial-ethnic identity is continuously evolving —it changes every day. Organizing and identifying ourselves within racial and ethnic categories does more harm than good.

No One Has Black or White Skin

Racial definitions are senseless. As an example, take the U.S. Census definition for white as:

“A person having origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa. It includes people who indicate their race as ‘White’ or report entries such as Irish, German, Italian, Lebanese, Arab, Moroccan, or Caucasian.”

While the ludicrousness of this definition warrants a stand-alone “white” paper, we will highlight a few examples. The inclusion of Middle Eastern and North African into “white” as dictated by the U.S. government is highly disputed by many individuals with good reason. Additionally, there is an argument to be made that “white” itself as a racial description is racist in that it implies “not black.” There is no white or black skin, just shades of brown, driven by historical adaptation to U.V. radiation.

While there are academic distinctions between race and ethnicity, these lines are blurry at best. The practice of nation-state governments being aligned to race and ethnicity is a flimsy basis for a community.

We are human beings first and our nation is Earth.

Racial-Ethnic Tension

The nation-state regime endorses racial-ethnic pride. This nationalistic practice occurs in several ways, a few examples include:

These are merely a few examples of how ethnic tension is fostered by the nation-state regime. Ethnic Pride Enforcement Mechanisms at the very least create an environment of ethnic tension that can lead to ethnic hostility.

Genocide

Militias and political parties sometimes harness ethnic hostility to justify the systematic killing of a particular racial-ethnic group, resulting in genocide. These genocidal influencers are motivated by a desire to improve economic conditions, exercise an ethno-racial superior ideology, change the dominant racial-ethnic composition of a particular geographic area, and/or other motivating factors

Genocide, in the developed world, might seem like ancient history, or an outcome that could never occur in the future. However, we should not be naïve of the possibility of future genocides in the developed world as economic cycles can deteriorate quickly and devolve into civil unrest.  We should also acknowledge current genocides which are poorly publicized and lost in the rapid winds of modern news flow.

We must be meticulous in our attempt to rid the world of racial-ethnic hostility and dilute racial-ethnic tension to levels where it does not present a potential danger. The end of the nation-state regime will drastically reduce racial-ethnic tension and therefore reduce the likelihood of genocide.

It is time to separate race and State.

War on Steroids

Published : June 24, 2023

War is an act of the state, not the people

Going to war is most often not a choice of the citizens of a nation-state. Nation-states do not hold votes or gather the explicit permission of their citizens when they decide to utilize public resources to kill other human beings. And in fact, many nation-state governments develop propaganda campaigns to convince their citizens that war is necessary. Furthermore, many wars are conducted by nation-state governments despite opposition from the majority of their citizens.

Government representatives initiate most wars, but it is not their blood spilling onto the ground in battle; it is the blood of the people. The process by which government representatives send fellow citizens into battle to die is an abuse of power. The killing machine of state enacted war must be stopped.

Nation-States Magnify the Casualties of War

War waged by nation-states is a particularly destructive enterprise. The enormous resource pools accessible to nation-state militaries, funded by civilian tax money, provide a near endless supply of troops, weapons, and other technological tools to manufacture killing. Stated differently, nation- states allocate resources to make killing more efficient and to develop systems of mass destruction; a murder infrastructure funded by taxpayers. We are all to blame, and thus we should collectively solve this atrocity.

War Spending

The money spent on excessive wars by nation-state regimes is a colossal tragedy. Excessive war includes armed conflict beyond critical defense and prolonged military campaigns with unclear objectives. These enormous sums of wasted money could have either been: A) spent in a productive manner to improve the life of citizens (e.g. education, infrastructure), or B) not taken from the pockets of citizens in the first place.

The use of public funds to engage in excessive war is a fiduciary breach of duties by elected tax spenders. Stated differently, one of the key responsibilities of elected representatives is to ensure tax dollars are spent appropriately, particularly when human lives are at stake. Any government that uses tax dollars to engage in the destruction of human life beyond critical defense instead of the improvement of human life should be held legally accountable for breach of their fiduciary duties.

The 2001-2021 US war in Afghanistan is a prime example of an excessive war. In addition to the human tragedies and lifelong trauma caused to the people living in Afghanistan as well as the troops who were deployed there, the war cost is estimated around $2.3 Trillion, or $2,300,000,000,000. Other potential uses of $2.3 Trillion of tax revenue include.

Restrictions on Freedoms

Restrictions on Commerce

Nation-state tariffs and/or economic policies that favor people of one nation-state over another are prejudiced. Elected representatives often proselytize about the glorification of workers in their nation-state vs. workers in other nation-states. This falsely depicts international trade as a zero-sum game; one nation wins, one nation loses. The truth is that regions of the globe are at different stages of economic maturity, and that transitioning industries from one part of the globe to another is a long-term benefit for all parties.

Politicians utilize an “Us versus Them” (UVT) rhetorical strategy in the context of trade to ignite passion in a disenfranchised segment of the population; “They are taking your jobs.” Whether these strategies are used by enterprising politicians to gather votes, build a personal political brand, or are made from genuine ignorance, blaming people of another race for economic stress is unproductive and prejudiced. Why should workers of one nation-state be regarded as more important than those of another? This portrayal masks the underlying phenomena of different stages of economic maturity and does little to help those who have lost their jobs. At the root of this theology is that people of their nation-state are better, or more important, than those of other nation-states. This practice is a masked form of commercial racism and should be put to an end. Let us end Us Versus Them. #ENDUVT

Protectionism Destroys Prosperity

Economic protectionism (also referred to as tariffs), trade-war policies, or any obstacle to free trade is estimated to cost the global economy hundreds of billions of dollars annually. Stated differently, nation-state economic policies destroy prosperity by enacting selfish rules of trade. As mentioned previously, trade is not a zero-sum game; all parties benefit in the long run when trade is unrestricted.

The nation-state system encourages trade wars by artificially segmenting the global population into “nations” that compete against one another for economic dominance. The “glory of the nation” model is stale—leftover from the age of kingdoms—and should not be the go-forward model for Civilization 5.0. We should strive to evolve and educate workers rather than protect industries that are better suited for other parts of the globe in a different stage of economic maturity.

Prosperity evaporates with every tariff dollar collected; let us topple this ancient regime. Kill tariffs to unlock trillions of dollars of economic growth and prosperity while ending commercial racism.

Restrictions on Migration

Human beings cannot freely move around the globe. The wealthy can move across borders for purposes of leisure and/or commerce on a short-term basis, but permanent moves are enormously complicated by a variety of factors. Legal complexities, immigration quotas, and enormous costs make moving to a different part of the globe, whether near or far, extremely difficult. The thousands of migration related deaths each year exemplify this struggle.

Restrictions on migration enable despots to rule for decades, as citizens of these “Regional Prisons” are unable to flee in many cases.

Restrictions on migration also distort the job market as certain nation-states have a labor surplus (e.g. unemployed) while others have a labor shortage (e.g. unable to find workers). Additionally, workers being locked within the borders of their own nation-state creates labor arbitrage, where people of similar to identical skills are paid differently based on their geographic location. These vast differences in compensation perpetuate global inequality.

Restrictions on Identity

The nation-state system forces a nation-state identity onto its citizens; there is no choice in the matter. Most people at birth are forced into a nationality, which is accompanied by a set of beliefs and values which may not align to the person’s natural beliefs. These forced values are imposed upon nearly all human beings on the globe in varying degrees of intensity.

The theology of “Nation” need not be forced upon us.

Restriction on Religious Freedom

Despite colossal efforts, restrictions on religious freedom still impact large portions of the global population. Approximately 40% of the global population lives in a nation-state where individuals are not permitted to practice a religion of their choice. Acts of faith in these restrictive nation-states are met with harassment, imprisonment, beatings and death in some cases. 15% of the global population practices classic sharia law, which strictly prohibits any religion other than Islam. These restrictions violate critical human rights and should be retired from humanity.

Restrictions on Voting

In some nation-states, voting is completely restricted and in others there are unnecessary barriers. Approximately a third of the global population has no influence on the head of state or legislature that administers their life. Members of a community who provide resources (tax) to the common good must be granted the ability to participate in how those resources are allocated. Anything less is a crime committed by government against the people. Let’s end taxation without representation.

Public Monopolies

Published : June 24, 2023

Money

From the earliest human civilizations, various forms of money have been utilized. Good for good barter (e.g. a goat traded for a bushel of wheat) and the need for debt evolved into fiat currency (e.g. US Dollar, Chinese Yuan), which today is managed by nation-state governments. The administration of a monetary system requires managing the quantity (amount of money is in a system) and flow (ensuring money can be spent/received/saved) of money in a given monetary system. Historically, the management of money systems has been monopolized by nation-state governments for a variety of reasons, such as:

  • The high cost of maintaining an infrastructure to create currency (e.g. printing bills and coins)
  • The ability for governments to pay down debt via inflation (e.g. printing money to pay down debt)
  • A government being a natural consensus mechanism (e.g. everyone believes in it)
  • Historical precedent

Governments continuously mis-manage monetary systems. Here are two prime examples:

III. Post State: A New Structure to Replace Nation-States

Solutions to the Nation-State Regime: Guiding Principles

Published : June 24, 2023

It is easy to highlight the problems of the nation-state regime, so now let us move to the challenge of building a better government. Before solutions are proposed, we must discuss a few guiding principles to help focus the effort.

It’s Time to Separate Racial-ethnicity and State

Human beings can be classified or grouped in a variety of ways. Some of the most common groupings are listed below:

The boxes highlighted in pink are the key communities that form the nation-state. Religion, while still dominant in some nation-states, has been formally separated from the state in much of the world. There are, however, exceptions to race/ethnicity and geographic location as being the two foundational communities. For example, most nation-states allow immigration, which mixes people from different races and ethnicities into one nation-state. Additionally, some nation-states have administrative authority over satellite locations far from home soil (e.g. the British Virgin Islands approximately 6,000 km from London; Hawaii as a part of America). But in general, a human being’s conception of “where they belong” from an administrative perspective is generally rooted in these two categories.

It is rational for geographic location to form an administrative community as many state functions require people to be in close proximity. These include child education, ensuring water and air quality, and management of public recreation areas, roads, infrastructure, etc. All of these components of a civilization work best when people are close together.

However, a racial-ethnic community as a requirement for an administrative community is much less obvious. What is the rationale for one “German” pooling their tax resources with mostly other “Germans”? Does this produce better administrative outcomes? Would spending programs to feed the hungry be any less effective if a “German” pooled their resources with someone who is “Chinese?” Does a public pension system provide better income security when two “Brazilian’s” pay into the tax pot vs. a “Brazilian” and a “Chilean”? The answer to both of these questions is no, racial-ethnicity makes no difference.

Furthermore, nationalist identities rooted in racial-ethnic tradition are largely inventions of enterprising politicians. So if we are receiving no benefit by organizing ourselves by racial-ethnicity while simultaneously incurring dangerous byproducts (e.g. racial-ethnic hostility and state sponsored racism), why do we continue to do so?

This phenomenon is largely rooted in tradition, and derived from a world where survival depended upon tribal allegiance. Nation is rooted in tribe, and it’s time to retire the tribes. #RetireTheTribes

Choice of Administrative Region Should be Easier

Membership to a nation-state is not a choice, it is assigned at birth. Changing one’s state requires years of administrative processing and substantial resources. Additionally, many risk their lives to cross “international” borders due to the dire environment of the nation-state of which they are born. These “illegal” crossings are merely human beings attempting to create a better life for themselves due to the false walls of the current nation-state regime.

Choice of Administrative Region is a natural right and the ability to change should not be a substantial effort. The ability to align one’s resources (in the form of tax) in exchange for a variety of services and governance must be easier in the new paradigm.

Fixing Government is a Good Return on Investment

Government is one of the most crucial social systems to organize our daily lives. Allocating time to make government more efficient yields a significant return on investment. Approximately 20% of an individual earnings will be routed to government in the form of tax, as the effective average global tax rate is approximately 20%. Stated differently, with global GDP at approximately $100 trillion, $20 trillion of that goes to the government, or 2 hours of a 10-hour work-day are to produce money to send to the government. Making this spending as efficient as possible is crucial.

Revolutions are not Complete Resets

Political revolutions are never a complete “reset” in that there are pieces of the old system that grow into the new. Social structures have inertia, as elements of the prior structure transfer their energy into the new power regime. These familiar elements mitigate some of the volatility of transitioning to a new system. Stated differently, most revolutions are not a complete reset but more of a partial recalibration.

It must be noted that many of the political paradigm shifts in history have relied upon existing administration systems to facilitate the transition to the next power regime. Two examples of this phenomenon are illustrated below:

Public Services and Regulation Should be Managed Separately

Nation-state governments under the nation-state regime lack focus. The current operating model of most national governments is a conglomerate of various public services and regulatory bodies. This merging of distinct functions creates a lack of common goals and exacerbates the frictions of bureaucracy. Government leaders are expected to provide public services and goods while simultaneously participating in the creation and enforcement of regulation and law. This broad mandate makes effective leadership difficult.

In the private sector, conglomerates that attempt to offer disparate goods and services often

fail as employees and management are unable to focus on the sale of core products and services. The market provides a natural check on these over-stretched firms as sales begin to decrease in non-core offerings, and management is pressured by shareholders to exit the business.

As this natural market check is not present in the public sector, administrative bodies should be simplified by splitting the delivery of public services and regulation. This split will drive better public services and more effective regulation.

Strive For Better

Finally, it is easy to forget the exhaustive trial and error and millions of thought hours that have gone into refining the nation-state regime. While we must acknowledge the success and prosperity that the nation-state regime has brought, it is not an excuse for complacency; we must not assume that we have developed the best system. The status quo can always be improved, and we must strive to evolve socially. Change is always needed, and it is needed now.

Administrative Regions

Published : June 24, 2023

The repair work needed to fix the current governmental systems of humanity is plentiful, but in the context of the achievements of humanity, it is a very achievable goal. This text proposes a solution to replace the nation-state regime with the Administrative Region (AR), as well as alternate forms of government that should be explored, studied and debated.

Imagine a world of Administrative Regions

Imagine a world where existing international borders have been erased, and only the history books show the map we know today. The minds of those of the Administrative Region world will look upon the map of nation-states and ponder life of a different era.

The Administrative Region is a decentralized solution for the Nation-state regime, where a much smaller administrative body serves as the primary government. This system contrasts with the behemoth nation-state governments that rule the globe today. Administrative regions exist in their nascent form today as local governments. Whether it be city, country, township, state, or other; one would consider their administrative alignment to a region vs. a nation-state.

For example, people would be from “New York City AR” or “Shanghai AR” and would know people from “Berlin AR” or “Bogota AR.” Some Administrative Regions would form in less urban areas like Cape Cod AR, Inner Mongolia AR or Northern Bavaria AR.

The world without nation-states will give way to robust human innovation, at a pace of technological development that makes the present seem slow. Resources will be far more efficiently allocated and governments will no longer stall the growth of humanity. Instead, they will act as an instrument to accelerate it.

The Most Pragmatic Solution

The Administrative Region (AR) is the most pragmatic solution to end the nation-state regime for several reasons, namely:

The AR solves many problems of the nation-state regime, including:

  • The AR is not a new concept. National governments are the dominant administrator at the present, but regional/municipal/civic governments exist and thrive today and did in the past.
  • Many government services are already performed and administered at the Administrative Region level (e.g. sanitation, education).
  • Tax infrastructure, the collection and spending of tax money, is already established in many cities and regions globally. Tax money which is currently routed to federal governments could be diverted to local governments.
  • Cities, which would serve as the epicenter of most ARs, contain ethnically diverse inhabitant pools that help increase empathy toward various ethnic groups, thereby reducing ethnic hostility.
  • Many people feel an affinity toward the city they live in. It is a natural bond, a love for the soil where one’s feet meets the earth.

The visual below illustrates the nation-state flow of power as well as how that would differ under an Administrative Region world. Note the addition of a Regional Regulatory Consortium (RRC) which is discussed in greater detail below.

Thousands of Laboratories

In a world organized by Administrative Regions, the number of administrative bodies would grow from approximately two hundred (the number of nation-states) to thousands. More administrative bodies (ARs) would ultimately contribute to more government experimentation and differences in approach to public services. More opportunities for innovation will result in better public policy and more efficient state services.

Cities are Organic Communities Whereas Nation-states are Synthetic

People have a natural affinity towards cities. Whether it be an apartment or house that one lives in, the school of their children, a group of friends that live close, a hub for employment; community forms organically in cities. Contrast this with the nation-state where racial-ethnic and national “community” is synthetically created by state propaganda, education systems, sporting events, enterprising politicians, and other methods. An organically grown community has stronger bonds than a synthetic one; shared experiences lead to empathy and better collective decision making.

Cities Are the Destination

As of the writing of this text, approximately 55% of the world’s population live in cities, and that number is expected to grow to at least 67% in the coming decades. Cities are the epicenter of human civilization and administration of the people should be aligned.

Cloud State

Published : June 24, 2023

Imagine the Cloud State (Consolidated PSP)

The cloud state model replaces services provided by the government with Public Service Providers (PSP), not a local government (Administrative Region). Instead of elected representatives administering public services funded by taxes, a fee is paid directly to a Public Service Provider. Note that the regulatory function of the government is separated from the public services function.

In the cloud state, the body of elected officials acting as middlemen is eliminated. As an example, State-X, a hypothetical public service provider, provides a package of services including sanitation, pension management, healthcare services, legal services, education, etc. The standard charge for these services is $1,000 US a month, with a variety of options and packages to choose from. State-X is in competition with PubServ-4U, another hypothetical public service provider, which would offer a similar variety of services at $975 US a month.

It should be noted that Public Service Providers would be regulated (by a regional regulatory consortium) just as private businesses currently are in most parts of the world. Services could be offered at sliding pricing tiers dependent on a customer’s income level, wealth level, or combination of factors. A sliding scale fee system helps manage the absence of a public social safety net, where providers would be required to subsidize lower income customer fees with higher income customer fees as per the Regional Regulatory Consortium. Additionally, this helps address regressive tax effects present in certain nations under the nation-state regime.

Cloud State (Distributed PSP)

A variant of this structure is the Cloud State with distributed Public Service Providers. This enables PSPs to specialize in one service offering vs. a package of public services. In this model, PSPs focus on providing one type of service (e.g. retirement planning) vs. a basket of services. This would benefit consumers as the PSP would specialize in the public service vs. a basket of services.

Benefits of the Cloud State

The benefits of the cloud state model include:

  1. Lower Costs. Opening services to a variety of providers (currently monopolized by the government) will drive down costs for everyone. Nation-state governments have limited cost control accountability, which results in governments issuing debt to fund services, which results in higher taxes and/or tax money being spent on inefficient operations. When services are run by the public sector, cost is not a priority. Profit, sought by investors, enforces disciplined spending in the private sector. Additionally, there are untapped revenue sources that public sector services do not take advantage of, due to the fact that optimizing cost is not enforced. If a business does not reduce costs, investors will eventually stop providing investment/funding. This market-based enforcement mechanism does not exist in the public sector today. Elected representatives are supposed to ensure efficient use of public funds, but when the resource pools are so vast, there is limited accountability of cost.[1]
  2. Better Services. In the current service model, nation-state governments have a monopoly on multiple public services. Monopolies lead to a lack of innovation as the force of competition cannot be a natural check and balance. Allowing multiple providers to provide public services will be a catalyst for innovation as competition will be present. When an entity has a motivation to increase its user base, it must constantly be attuned to the satisfaction of its customers.
  3. More Accountability. Citizens of the Nation-state regime cannot change to whom their tax bill goes, it is simply one large government pot. When citizens are able to choose who provides their public services, a check on quality is automatically built in. Accountability will be inherent, it is currently absent.
  4. Innovation of Hybrid Entities. The fight of government vs. privatization does not have to be so stark, hybrid entities can exist and flourish. Hybrid entities are organizations that can blend aspects of both profit and nonprofit organizations. Hybrid’s can also be thought of as private enterprise, treating “mission” equal to or greater than “profit”. Mission-based enterprise can be utilized to supply public services while generating social good.
  5. The Removal of Politics from Public Services. Political beliefs should be removed from public services. The irrational and theological aspects of political beliefs clog the effective delivery of public services.
  6. Freedom to choose with whom your resources are shared. The cloud state allows citizens to have far more influence on whom they are sharing their resources with. In the nation-state regime, not only do citizens share their resources with mostly people they do not know, but with people who have drastically different value systems.
  7.  Geographic Independence. The cloud state provides much more geographic independence, in that a citizens state can move with them. Contrast the nation-state regime, where moving states is logistically complex and overly burdensome.

Cloud States Today

The cloud state is operating in small pockets of the public sector today. Certain governments outsource specific public functions to private providers. For example, trash or utilities in many nation-state regimes are public/private partnerships, blending operations of both public and private sector entities.

Additionally, there is vast experimentation throughout the tech sector which is developing the metaverse, an evolution of the internet. Many virtual worlds are being created which will soon have the need for governance and authority, and perhaps a gateway to expanding the cloud state.

Equity States

Published : June 24, 2023

Imagine the Equity State

Imagine the equity state, where taxes are not paid, but investments are made. The equity state is a form of government that revolves around ownership of public assets, not tax burdens. The Equity State is not a wave of a magic wand to rid the world of taxes, but is a different approach to ownership of public services.

The equity state grants explicit ownership of public assets to citizens, as opposed to general funding for the common good. The investment/ownership model would vastly improve the perception and performance of government.

The Allure of Investing

Simply put, most love investing and hate paying taxes. People invest in something they want to be a part of, as they envision a future benefit (e.g. more money). Taxes do not have the same psychological allure as an investment; taxes lack excitement. So much in fact, that there are entire industries built around reducing one’s tax “bill.” So let us ask, why does everyone try to avoid paying for public services from which they benefit? Whether it is to secure the assets of the rich or help the poor to eat, public services funded by taxes accrue wealth for everyone, just as investing in a retirement fund. So why do we hate paying taxes even though the services produced from these funds benefit us? There are a variety of answers, but one of the primary reasons is that there is no explicit record of ownership and benefit. Stated differently, taxes have a “marketing problem.” Human beings need tangible proof of what is theirs. Under the Nation-state regime, citizens do not “own” a portion of the military which ensures their assets are safe. Nobody explicitly owns a portion of the roads on which their vehicles commute.

It is human nature to favor one’s personal belongings and wealth over the public pot of resources. We are selfish creatures and need an artifact to remind us of what is ours. So how do we solve this dilemma? Ownership for everyone; an explicit record of ownership for all public assets. An illustrative example is below:

Published : June 24, 2023

How the Equity State Could Work

All citizens of an Administrative Region would be allocated a number of shares of each Public Service Provider. Each citizen would be required to hold a minimum number of shares with the excess being available to trade or sell. As an example, the Chen family owns a single-family residence within The NYC Administrative Region (the NYC City State). The Chen’s Ownership of the land and house entitles them to 50 shares of NYCHealth!, a PSP which provides healthcare services to people within the NYC-AR. When NYCHealth! needs to appoint a new CEO, the Chen family votes its 50 shares for approval or non-approval. Any profit NYCHealth! brings in for the quarter is returned to its shareholders in the form of a dividend; all citizen-investors receive a cash payment. If a deficit occurs, additional funding is required, which can either take the form of public debt or additional share issuance.

A direct ownership structure will provide citizen-investors with a vested interest in disciplined spending (as they receive a cash benefit) balanced with quality services that they utilize. Each citizen-investor will hold a portfolio of assets, just as they do in their retirement account.

Ownership allocation, meaning how many shares does each person hold, can take a variety of forms. Some Administrative Regions could opt for simple structures like one person one share, others could construct a hierarchy of share classes, each with different benefits, restrictions and contribution/distribution rules.

The Consortium Model

Published : December 10, 2023

Most services of government can be replaced and run more efficiently with the proposed decentralized models. There are some functions, however, that benefit from some level of centralization and thus a governing body via consortium is required.

The Regional Regulatory Consortium (RRC)

The RRC is a governing body that would manage regulation of commerce by region. Examples of current government functions which could be replaced by RRCs include regulatory agencies (e.g. FDA, SEC, EPA). The mandate of a RRC will be to ensure that commerce is conducted ethically and without abuse from bad actors. This includes consumer safety, environment sustainability, licensing, and other functions. It should be noted that many of these regulatory functions can be funded by charging industry user fees, and thus funding from a centralized general tax pool is not crucial.

Defense

Even in a target state model where nation-states cease to exist, there will still be bad actors that organize armed groups of people attempting to amass wealth and power. Thus, a defense force is required to maintain order. A professional military which could represent people across a region or the globe would be established to thwart armed aggression. Each Administrative Region would help fund the defense consortium either through a fee collected from its citizens or a group of reserve troops ready to serve in the event of an armed aggressor.

How to Improve Voting

Published : June 26, 2023

Let’s End Taxation without Representation

Everybody in the world should be able to vote. Many nation-states restrict this right, particularly the People’s Republic of China, the largest nation-state currently restricting its citizens from the right to vote while simultaneously collecting tax from them. China comprises approximately 20% of the global population, and in total, only about 20% of the global population can be considered free when it comes to political rights.

This phenomenon, taxation without adequate representation, is a crime against the people. Additionally, there are many other portions of the globe where elections are held for optical reasons, but where free and fair voting is suspect at best.

Elections, despite the poor execution by nation-state governments, provide citizens a sense of ownership and encourage governmental participation. This white paper does not necessarily argue that all representatives need be directly elected nor all legislation be voted upon, but the option for every citizen to participate is a universal right. The fact that a large portion of the globe’s population does not have an active voice in their government under the nation-state regime should ignite the fires of change.

Candidates Should be Tested

Representative governments are not choosing good leaders. This white paper argues that there is nothing wrong with representative government itself, only the way in which it is currently executed. Nation-state representatives are selected either through popular elections (e.g. much of the west) or insider power brokering (e.g. China). In many western nation-states, leaders are elected based on their ability to market themselves. The ability to self-promote and speak well in a public forum is a different skill set than being an effective administrator.

A strong understanding of governmental functions is necessary to be an effective administrator, however, there is currently no requirement to know these laws or processes to run for public office. Candidates should be required to take a “Public Service Test” as well as a personality test. The results should be made public so there are data driven metrics to aid voters in their decision process.

We need to Include Performance Metrics in Voting

Datafication is needed in democracy. Data driven statistics need to be integrated into the elective process. Elections in many nation-states are akin to popularity contests where the winning candidate is more skilled at marketing than administrative ability. Part of this is due to the fact that the voting populace has no statistics to utilize in their assessment of the candidates; it’s mostly sound-bytes and rehearsed rhetoric. A list of metrics which can help assess the candidate’s potential performance should be available for public use; public support for this exists. Cognitive tests, behavioral tendencies, administrator test scores, and other data should all be standard practice (see example below). In a world of data wealth, we are information poor. Now is the time to make it better.

Better Information at the Polling Station

We are living in an era of unprecedented information flow, yet when we vote, we are poorly informed. Most voters have little to no information on the candidates they are selecting other than quick-hit propaganda and exaggerated anecdotal stories they have seen on TV, internet or social media. Imagine an election booth that would enable candidates to provide a one minute video of their background and what they hope to achieve while in office. For ballot initiatives or laws that are put up for a vote, a one-minute video could be posted that would highlight the pros and cons of the initiative.

We have the technology to help voters make informed decisions at the election booth. Voting by political party letter (e.g. “R” or “D”) next to a name, or from a sign a voter has seen on their neighbor’s lawn is suboptimal. The Nation-state regime should be facilitating a continuous process to enhance the infrastructure of democracy, yet the election process continues to decline. Access to information has revolutionized many other areas of civilization; selection of representatives should be next.

Increase the Frequency of Voting

When modern democracies were first established several centuries ago, the process of casting a vote could take a week or longer when factoring in travel time. Today, technology has enabled the ability to connect decision makers and their constituents within fractions of a second. The world is much quicker now but governmental decision making has not adapted to these new technologies; it is time to modernize. A modern, well-oiled representative democracy machine needs more frequent decision making in order to keep pace with the increasing speed of the world.

If elections were held more frequently it would engage a generally complacent populace and allow for a more dynamic and productive relationship between constituent and decision maker. Voting more often would remind the populace of the necessary administrative work required to facilitate a modern civilization. Additionally, more frequent voting would enable quicker administrative decision making and more rapid policy deployment when needed.

End Sloth Voting

In a world where people work, find their life partner, and communicate with friends and family with the little screen in the palm of their hand, why are we still mostly voting in person? Should we not be using the digital tools we have created to make voting easier?

More than 80% of the global population has a cellphone. Compare that to 18% who have a car and hundreds of millions who have limited or no access to public transportation. Traveling to election booths requires time off of work, arranging care for children or sick loved ones, and travel logistics. The democratic process suffers by not enabling citizens to vote with their cell phone.

“Sloth voting,” defined as in-person voting, not only restricts the number of people voting, but it also raises the risk of intimidation of voters at polling stations which is rampant in nation-states with untrustworthy elections. These unfortunate circumstances could be eliminated with remote voting.

Additionally, many voters have to wait several hours at polling locations, which serves as a deterrent for many.

Finally, the manual tallying of votes by human hand is ludicrous when one steps back and contemplates the other forms of human data collection that are handled digitally.

Security concerns are valid but extremely exaggerated due to the politicization of voting. Facilitating secure electronic voting should be a priority of governments and is already in practice by many private firms. Yet, due to political tribal warfare and the inability of the nation-state governments to execute on the most simple enhancement initiatives, this innovation will not likely occur until we rid ourselves of the nation-state regime.

Proxy Voting: Letting Others Help

Proxy voting, defined as selecting others to cast a vote on your behalf, could help increase voter participation and improve the quality of decision making in democracy. In today’s world where the pace of data flow is hypnotizing, it is difficult to synthesize this data into information, particularly when it relates to government. Additionally, some people are overwhelmed by the needs of children, sick elders, or an arduous work schedule. There is a portion of the voting populace that will prefer to have minimal involvement in government for a variety of reasons. For these individuals, a passive solution should be employed; to have someone else vote for them.

If citizens had the ability to delegate their vote to a “professional voter,” it would increase the total percentage of the population engaged in elections, and enable more informed decision making. These professional voters would specialize in understanding the details of laws on the ballot, and the potential effectiveness of potential candidates. Rules would have to be employed in order to ensure a professional voter could only proxy for a maximum number of voters in addition to other rules to prevent abuse.

It should be noted that many citizens would still opt to cast their own ballot, but providing the option to delegate one’s vote to a proxy would improve voting outcomes.

Paycheck Transparency

Most people have no idea how their tax contributions are spent; let’s make this better. Every paycheck should have greater transparency as to how funds sent to the public treasury are allocated. Improved transparency will help people better understand how their money is being spent and will facilitate a better sense of ownership of government finances. Providing more detailed information for each paycheck would be relatively easy to produce and yield significant benefits for transparency.

Current

Proposed

This example, which certainly could be improved upon, accomplishes two things. First, it provides a better translation of how the public resource pool is being utilized. A wording change of “education” or “military” is far easier to understand than “Fed Withholding” or “Fed MED/EE”. This helps demystify the tax-harvest to tax-spend process. Second, notice the use of the word “we,” not “federal.” We are the government whether we like it or not. Whether we are a nation-state, city state, LLC, DAO, or any other form of decision-making group, we are part of a community that must manage central resource pools. Embrace we. #EmbraceWe

Improve the Feedback Model

Government needs to improve the gathering, synthesis, and accountability of feedback from citizens. In commerce, there is a continuous cycle of feedback between buyer and seller that occurs naturally. Products that sell well demonstrate good demand, and products that sell poorly have limited demand. Private institutions also gather feedback on their product and service offerings, as they have a natural incentive to improve and increase sales. This “automatic” feedback model does not currently exist for public services as maximizing sales is inapplicable.

While elections do provide broad public feedback, they often occur far apart— generally every two to six years. Once a “bad seed” is in office, the public does not have an opportunity to provide electoral feedback until the next election unless extraordinary measures are taken (e.g. impeachment). Citizens do have the opportunity to provide more direct feedback to their elected representatives or agencies, however there is no enforcement mechanism to ensure that the feedback is adequately addressed.

Elected representatives should proactively seek feedback. This process could be enacted simply via online surveys incentivized by a tax credit, where citizens are provided an opportunity to provide frequent feedback to their representatives. As this data is collected throughout the course of a representative’s tenure, their responsiveness can be measured and serve as a key metric for subsequent elections. A feedback response rating could be utilized to measure a representative’s effectiveness to enact feedback. A similar process should be established for public services as well.

Align the Incentives of Tax Spender and Taxpayer via Structured Compensation

The desires of the tax spender and taxpayer need to be aligned: effective government services for the lowest cost. The current absence of this alignment is highlighted here, A Bad Deal for the Taxpayer, but in summary, tax spenders have limited incentive to spend efficiently. However, if a tax spender’s compensation was aligned to the efficiency of tax spending, outcomes would be different. Let us examine a few methods in which tax spender compensation could be structured in order to benefit both the taxpayer and tax spender:

There are other assessment methods that could be employed and refining this framework is needed. But ultimately, ensuring that government representatives have “skin in the game” is crucial to the success of government.

Term Limits Need to be Mandatory

All public offices need to have term limits. Many of the current problems of the nation-state regime are in part influenced by administrators serving in their office for too long. Whether it be heads of state, congress, parliament members, judicial representatives, or others, term limits on all government offices must be mandatory.

Being in a position of authority has a psychological side-effect; once power has been had, an individual is programmed to retain it. The representative’s mind spends more processing time figuring out how to retain or build power vs. conducting the necessary actions of state. This deficiency of the human mind, being able to step away from authority, is a psychological limitation of the human mind and we must establish the necessary checks and balances to limit abuse.

Enhanced government must build a mechanism for term limits for every office.

Revenue and Expense Reduction Opportunities

Governments can utilize numerous opportunities to reduce tax burdens. These opportunities exist both for revenue generation perspective as well as expense reduction. They are:

  • Troops at schools. There are millions of troops around the world that are not currently engaged. These troops cost hundreds of billions of dollars. Why can’t these troops be put to work to serve as security at schools?
  • Real Estate Rental. The military owns billions of dollars in real estate assets, yet not all are utilized. Can we not find a way to make those real estate assets more productive?

A Look Toward the Future

The End of Us vs. Them

Us vs. Them; now is the time to end it. We have been raised via cultural traditions to always have an enemy. Ambitious leaders of both past and present have harnessed the frustrations and struggles of daily life, and channeled that anger into hatred of another tribe, culture, or nation. During peace times, this energy is directed toward opposing political parties and leaders, which creates colossal inefficiencies in the administration of government. We need to evolve culture and break the habit of hate as a tool.

What can we do to break this habit?
Turn off political hate shows.

  • Associate with communities that are focused on solutions as opposed to hate.
  • Help direct the energy currently being channeled into hatred toward the actual villains, not an opposition political party. These villains are human traffickers, pedophile aggressors, warlords, and other human beings that inflict severe suffering on others for their own gain.

Blockchains

Blockchains and associated technologies could revolutionize governance. These innovative tools stemming from cryptocurrencies apply rules-based logic to highly cumbersome human processes. This family of technologies could enable large portions of government decision-making to be far better organized, thereby reducing unnecessary levels of bureaucracy. The spread of this captivating infectious technology is rooted in the core tenet of decentralization. The table below highlights a few of these opportunities:

These ideas barely scratch the surface of how blockchain technology could drastically enhance the operations of government.

Embrace Decentralized Government (#DeGov)

Decentralized Government (#DeGov) is a necessary and inevitable evolution that is already underway. Simply defined, decentralized government is a shift of power from larger central administrative bodies to smaller, nimble, and quicker-to-react governance structures. Many problems that arise for government to solve can be more rapidly solved with a smaller representative body. Removing layers of bureaucracy improves the speed of response and quality of execution.

The thought of removing a large power authority, currently the nation-state, from “watching over us” might seem like a terrifying idea. However, we should consider human history. For most of humankind, humanity has operated under a completely decentralized governance model. Millions of family-tribes scattered across the planet, conducting their daily work of finding food and protecting their kin. We naturally gravitated towards clustering into larger groups, which was driven by empire building, skills specialization, as well as information dissemination. We should retain the benefits of organizing into large groups, but shed the detriments.

The world is quickly transitioning to remote relationships where interactions can thrive with just an internet connection and now an asphalt road is not needed. Information is no longer reliant on the town square or horseback riders. Our governments were established without these technologies; it is time to upgrade. We all must push toward greater decentralization.

Embrace Supra-Civic Organizations

While the primary purpose of this white paper is to encourage a transition away from the nation-state, there are components of the system that should be retained either in an Administrative Region paradigm or any other paradigm that emerges to replace the nation-state. With smaller administrative bodies as the primary government, a form of collaboration similar to supranational organizations in the nation-state paradigm (e.g. The World Health Organization, of the International Monetary Fund) will be needed across these governments. These bodies will transform into Supra-Administrative Regions, Supra-DAOs, or another supra-administrator dependent on the dominant form of government.

A few examples of the public services that are best served by supra-organizations are provided below. This is not an exhaustive list, merely examples to be built upon.

A Community to Reshape Government is Needed

We are in dire need of a passionate community to reshape government. There are thriving and collaborative communities across other areas of civilization, yet few for government. In software development, free software is developed by community members and made available as a tool for the community; multiple communities exist to “advance the cause,”  In financial systems, the Basel system was set up to build resilience and partnership across the traditional financial system, and blockchain development is an open-source solution in decentralized finance. There are numerous communities within scientific research which are devoted to research and advancing their understanding of their corner of the universe.

The most passionate members involved in government reform today are typically ideologically charged individuals and organizations who focus on an isolated cause vs. holistic government structure reform.

There are many of us out there in the world today who want better government, but our efforts and passions are funneled into improving the decrepit governments of the nation-state regime. We are spending time repairing a dilapidated house when we should simply move. Let our efforts go beyond borders. #EndofState

Ignore the Resistance of the Nation-state Advocates

It is the nature of the institutions in power to retain their status; this comes at the expense of everyone on the planet. Resistance will be fierce from the Statesters wrapped in the tradition of the Nation-state Regime. Federal government leaders will simply not put themselves out of a job.

The Statesters will fight to preserve an order that benefits them individually, not the global population as a whole. We must ignore their pleas to preserve the current order, we must demand change, and without patience.

V. Post State: Take Action

Published : June 26, 2023

Revolutions are We

Revolutions are an act of “We,” we make change not “they.” And so let us define We:

To those who are tired of political gridlock and dysfunctional government standing in the way of a better world, it’s time we take action.

To those who are tired of elected leaders working for soundbites versus solutions, it’s time we take action.

To those business leaders and entrepreneurs with relentless perseverance, who have changed the world with big ideas and exhaustive execution only to find envious elected representatives waving the book of unconstructive regulation, it’s time we take action.

To those cryptocurrency market participants and enthusiasts who have time and time again disproven the naysayers who claim “scam,” it’s time we take action.

To those who are tired of taxation without representation, it’s time we take action.

To those who are tired of single party rule, where leaders of a political body act to serve party—not people, it’s time we take action.

To those who are born into impoverished nation-states and must climb mountains to simply get to the average level of wealth, information, and access to those born in the rich nations, it’s time we take action.

To those who are tired of tax systems that favor the wealthy, it’s time we take action.

To those who are tired of the nation-state money supply oligarchy, and are ready to help build the new financial communities of tomorrow, it’s time we take action.

The digital technology revolution has yet to fully be absorbed by our societal structures. Access to information has never been as cheap, plentiful, and rapid as it is today. This democratized access to information will alter the power structures of civilization. No longer is information available to a select few; information is available to all. Decentralized power is the future.

This is a call to action, a call to change the status quo, and a call to improve government. The moment we stop thinking that we can achieve no better is the moment we begin to decline. Whether the nation-state you live in is rooted in the traditions of western civilization, eastern tradition, or any other form, large scale disruption of our governments is imminent. So prepare, as this next transition in civilization will be a massive overhaul, on a scale that modem civilization has never experienced before.

Revolutions occur when a large enough portion of the populace realizes that change occurs with “we,” not “they.” We own the problems of the nation-state regime, no one else. This is not “their” problem to solve, it is ours. Revolution is ownership.

What We Can Do

Spread the word that solutions exist. Many conversations and dialogues about the ineffectiveness of government emit despair without any productive solution. This white paper offers solutions. Let’s be solution focused. Develop and implement your own solutions. Slowly, humanity is coming to terms with the fact that problems with government are not for them to solve; We are the solutioneers.
