Embrace Decentralized Government (#DeGov)

Decentralized Government (#DeGov) is a necessary and inevitable evolution that is already underway. Simply defined, decentralized government is a shift of power from larger central administrative bodies to smaller, nimble, and quicker-to-react governance structures. Many problems that arise for government to solve can be more rapidly solved with a smaller representative body. Removing layers of bureaucracy improves the speed of response and quality of execution.

The thought of removing a large power authority, currently the nation-state, from “watching over us” might seem like a terrifying idea. However, we should consider human history. For most of humankind, humanity has operated under a completely decentralized governance model. Millions of family-tribes scattered across the planet, conducting their daily work of finding food and protecting their kin. We naturally gravitated towards clustering into larger groups, which was driven by empire building, skills specialization, as well as information dissemination. We should retain the benefits of organizing into large groups, but shed the detriments.

The world is quickly transitioning to remote relationships where interactions can thrive with just an internet connection and now an asphalt road is not needed. Information is no longer reliant on the town square or horseback riders. Our governments were established without these technologies; it is time to upgrade. We all must push toward greater decentralization.
